Principal’s Reflection Term 2 2026

Reflection

Term 2, 2026

Schools are incredibly busy places and Term Two at Nagle Catholic College has been busy inside and outside of the classroom.

Catholic Identity

The College’s faith life has been flourishing this term. Along with weekly masses held on a Thursday morning in the Chapel, students have had the opportunity to attend liturgical celebrations with Father Bernard during RE lesson times as well as have him in class to answer some of their questions.

The (M)Other’s Day Mass and Morning Tea was a wonderful way to honour the female role models in our lives and to thank them for the many ways in which they help us, spiritually, emotionally and physically.

The College was lucky to host the Migrant Jubilee Cross for a liturgy and learn about the relics inside the cross in Week 5.

In Week 6 the Year 12 students attended one of the highlights of the year, the Year 12 Retreat. During the retreat the students had time to reflect on their Nagle journey and what the future holds for them whilst also providing time to be with friends and strengthen their bonds as a year group. Week 6 also saw the College celebrate Reconciliation Week and reflect on what this means for Australia.

The Grandparent’s Morning Tea included a lovely liturgy, focusing on the love and support our grandparents bring us and was so well attended that we had to provide more seating! Pope Paul VI said “Live your faith in your daily lives, at home and in school; and show true Christian love to your schoolmates” and at Nagle we have definitely tried to emulate this in Term 2.

Education

This term the Years 10, 11 and 12 students have had a heavy focus on exams. For our Year 10 students, it is the first time they have participated in this form of assessment, and it often brings with it feelings of anxiety and stress. While these emotions are not pleasant, it also provides opportunities for our students to show resilience and to tap into the strategies that they have learnt in previous years at Nagle. The Year 11 students who participated in their first round of ATAR exams have found these a challenge, with the increase in academic rigour, and is another valuable learning opportunity. It has been interesting hearing the Year 11 students reflect on their results and make

connections between their future aspirations, work ethic and desire for success. For the students who did not sit exams, it was an opportunity to catch up on schoolwork, participate in work placement and spend time focusing on TAFE and certificate courses. In Year 12 students not only sat exams but also participated in standardised assessment tasks. They have been working very hard and all eyes are focused on the end of Term Three and formal schooling.

Outside the classroom students have also been busy with Careers Week in Week Two, Arts Week in Week Four and various camps across the Term. At Nagle our students are lucky to be given the opportunity to put their lessons into practice through the Year 12 ATAR HaSS fieldtrip, Year 11 Geography fieldtrip, Year 11 Biology Expedition to Shark Bay, Year 10 Art Gallery Workshop, Year 9 Career Taster experiences, Year 8 Digital Photography excursion, MADALAH Student Camp to Perth, HUB Mother’s Day Stall, Year 9 Day Out and our Outdoor Ed camps to Rottnest, Kalbarri, the Abrolhos Islands and Little Bay.

Sport is also another way in which our students at Nagle are given opportunities to put what they learn into practice. Physical skills, as well as social and emotional capabilities have been tested during the Interhouse Cross Country Carnival, Year Seven to Nine AFL Carnival and the ACC Cross Country in Perth. Congratulations to Kelly House on winning the Cross Country Shield.

Over the Holidays

You would think that school holidays would see a slowing down of school events and activities, but this is not the case at Nagle. Good luck to all the staff and students who will be participating in the Camino Salvado, Melbourne Arts Camp and the Ski Trip. We look forward to your safe return and hearing all about your travel.

At the beginning of the year the College launched its Ready 2 Learn program that helps students be prepared for each lesson and provides guidelines and expectations that sets students up for success in the classroom. During the holidays it would be good if parents could take some time to ensure their child has the necessary items required to participate in their lessons. Students are required to have a fully charged laptop, laptop bag, pencil case with pens and pencils and exercise books and should be coming to school each day with a backpack.

This year we have also changed the uniform requirements on Wednesdays to allow our students to wear their sports uniform all day. This change has been put in place so that students can fully participate in the various programs we run for our Pastoral Care Period and can also sit comfortably during our assemblies. For 2026 this change is not compulsory and students do not have to wear their sports uniform if they do not wish, however we are looking at making this compulsory for 2027. Again, the holidays is a perfect time to check your child's uniform to ensure it still fits and meets the uniform guidelines and requirements.

Have a wonderful break.

Regards,

Susan Macdonald
