jumpstart
This year, the College introduced a new course called JumpStart Construction, which is available for all Year 10 students an an Option subject. Students in the class were asked to share their thoughts on the course so far.
In the course, we have done a huge amount of paperwork for Worksafe Certificates and White Cards which now means we are allowed on certain work sites. It was all worth it as we now get to go to a workplace of our choice every Friday for the Semester. All the boys in the class are going to different places such as: GBSC, James Groom Constructions, Road Runner Mechanical and Wayne Poletti Automotive. Some students are also experiencing tourism jobs such as a working on a charter boat with a company called Abrolhos Adventures. |
In the course, I get to go out every Friday and gain work experience. I’m working with a family friend who is part owner of Robert J Dillon Electrical. I've worked with three different tradesman who have taught me how to strip cables, put power points together and work safely on a proper worksite. My favourite part of the course is smoko, where we all get together and talk about what we have done on the job that day and I get to chat with tradesman about what its really like. So far on work experience I have learnt many new skills that I hope can help me in the future get a job or apprenticeship. |
