This year I was fortunate enough to have a Gap Year position with Learning Support in The Hub. I had not planned on taking a gap year but at the last minute applied and it has turned out to be a very rewarding experience.
One of the hardest transitions to adjust to was moving from a student to staff member, calling teachers by their first names and learning more about how the College operates. Although, it has opened my eyes to the dedication that all staff members have to the students.
Another rewarding part has been the connections with the students, working closely with a small group of Hub students every day means that you become more of a friend to them then a staff member. I am very grateful to have been able to have this experience as I have grown in patience, resilience and organisation skills. Next year I am studying nursing and know that these qualities will come in handy!
I can highly recommend this experience to anyone that is interested. I do not think that there is another job that is so diverse, keeps you on your toes and always makes you laugh. Plus, it is the perfect gap year job as you still get school holidays!
